Howto create a Debian Package from 3rd-Party Software

checkinstall is a useful tool, which is installed by running TheoDue_ServerUpgrade, to create a Debian (Ubuntu) package from a normal make install type process. For example, the latest version of gnuplot was installed with the following sequence: tar -xvf gnuplot-4.6.tar.gz cd gnuplot-4.6.5 ./configure --with-linux-vga make checkinstall -install=no The last command creates a file gnuplot-theodue-4.6.5-1_amd64.deb, which can be installed everywhere. The package will be installed  in /usr/local/bin, and thus does not interfere with normal ubuntu packages.Adapted from http://verahill.blogspot.de/2012/03/compiling-installing-gnuplot-46-on.html. / ES
